**Working principle:**
-The camshaft is driven by a timing belt or chain, which precisely controls the opening and closing timing of the valves and coordinates with the movement of the piston to complete the four basic cycles of the engine: intake, compression, combustion, and exhaust.
-When running at high speeds, the timing belt or chain is prone to vibration, and after prolonged use, the timing belt will elongate and deform due to material fatigue and stress, causing valve timing misalignment and leading to a series of problems such as increased fuel consumption, reduced power, engine knocking (detonation), etc.
-When the valve timing is severely misaligned, premature opening or delayed closing of the valve may collide with the upward moving piston, causing serious engine damage.
**The Importance of Tensioners:**
-The tensioning system, usually consisting of tensioning wheels and guide rails, is designed to maintain moderate tension on the timing belt or chain, avoid tooth skipping caused by looseness, and also prevent wear or damage caused by overtightening.
-The tensioning wheel is in direct contact with the timing belt, while the guide rail is in direct contact with the timing chain. During engine operation, these components evenly apply the tension obtained from the tensioner to the belt or chain, ensuring that they are neither too loose nor too tight.
